BODEGA SOLALTO
San Juan Province, producer of
SolAlto wines
SolAlto’s vineyards are located in the Tulum Valley in San Juan
province. Long recognized as one of the country’s most important
premium vineyard sites, Tulum Valley is noted for state-of-the-art
irrigation practices, sustainable farming methods and hand
harvesting.
Bodega SolAlto, or Wine Cellar (of the) High Sun, rests on the
foot of the Andes at an elevation of 3,937 feet. Although their
SolAlto wine is new to the U.S. market, world renowned wine writer
Anthony Dias Blue knows the winery very well:
“…down to earth prices but elevated quality, thanks to high
altitude vineyards and French consultant
Michael Rolland."
Unique among the region’s wineries and constructed in the shape of
a cross, each of the four wings of the bodega houses a small
winery with two sections. The first, at ground level, houses
stainless steel fermentation tanks. The second, 26 feet below
ground level, is used for maturing the wine and oak aging. The
four wineries meet at the central chamber where they share a state
of the art bottling facility, and the entire design was created to
minimize handling, pumping and oxidation in order to protect the
fruit flavors and aromas of their red and white table wines.
